Time Scale is a survey exhibition delving into thirty years of architectural works by Erginoğlu&Çalışlar. A public program including talks and guided tours unpacking the architectural office’s practices across three decades will take place at the MSGSÜ Tophane-i Amire Culture and Art Center from May 3rd to May 31st, 2024.
Time Scale explores the architectural works of Erginoğlu&Çalışlar, established by Kerem Erginoğlu and Hasan Çalışlar in Istanbul in 1993. The exhibition surveys the office’s thirty-year journey through objects gathered from their projects’ research, design, and implementation processes. It comprises original sketches, drawings, models, and photographic documents, displayed chronologically. Objects borrowed from the office’s physical and digital collections are presented in a manner consistent with their substance. The exhibition organizes project representations by period, also providing a clear pathway by which to trace changes in architectural technologies. Running parallel to the works, events inserted into Time Scale extend throughout the exhibition’s scope across a shared historical narrative, evoking significant milestones from the past thirty years in both Türkiye and the world.
Erginoğlu&Çalışlar has engaged in extensive collaborations with numerous experts and businesses over the years, during which they witnessed significant professional, social, and economic transformations globally. They undertook various projects with stakeholders such as colleagues, clients, craftsmen, engineers, and contractors, expanding internationally starting in 1999. Throughout their career, Erginoğlu&Çalışlar emphasized the production of high-quality structures that respond to the specific data and requirements of the geographical contexts in which they operate. Simultaneously, they have strived to create a dynamic work environment where architectural knowledge and experience are passed on from one generation to the next.
The design and installation ofTime Scale under the single dome of Tophane-i Amire is inspired by Erginoğlu&Çalışlar’s wish to form a meeting place dedicated to exchanging ideas around architecture. The temporary common space under the dome will host workshops organized by architects from the Erginoğlu&Çalışlar team, special guided tours led by former employees of the office, and round table discussions with architects, artists, historians, and clients. Public programs will continue throughout the exhibition, to cultivate a shared timeframe of collaboration and productivity beyond the office’s internal narrative, intersecting with professional practice and daily life.

Erginoğlu&Çalışlar’s pragmatic and aesthetic design approach, aimed at highlighting their clients‘ corporate identities, has garnered numerous prestigious national and international awards. The firm was a finalist for the Aga Khan Architecture Award in 2016 with the New Power Station in Baku. Additionally, they received first prize in the New and Old Building category at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) for the Tuzambarı – Medina Turgul DDB in Istanbul and first prize in the Iconic Awards for the New Power Station. Furthermore, Erginoğlu&Çalışlar has been recognized with various National Architecture Awards in different years.
Moreover, the founding partners have conducted various workshops and served as jury members at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Istanbul Technical University, Bursa Uludağ University, Yıldız Technical University, University of Bologna, and the University of Minnesota.,
