The Dinamo Sports Club and the Dinamo Building, a modest, characteristic, and beautiful example of 1930s Soviet architecture, which served the club for years, hold an important place in the memory of the constantly changing and evolving city of Baku. The primary objective of the project is to lend, in line with present needs, a new function to a building that holds historic and emotional importance for the city and thus establish a connection between the past, the present, and the future. This new function is thus designated as a “concept hotel” that overlaps with the expanding city’s need for accommodation, as well as the building’s unique identity and location. In restoring the former building, the original shell and structure of the building have been preserved whilst implementing the necessary static reinforcements. The mass/void ratios pay tribute to the original architecture of the period, maintain the continuity of visual memory, and cater to the needs of the building’s new function as a hotel.
Bronze aluminum façade, transparent and bronze glass, bronze metals, and natural stones are used as part of the restoration, whereas precast building elements are opted in the recreation of the original façade ornamentations and reliefs.A single storey modern annex as well as a cascading green-water element are designed in order to meet the technical demands of the building and to eliminate the unpleasant view of other features such as the neighboring wall, mechanical equipment, etc. in the garden. These features not only create an interior garden/atmosphere, but also allow this space to be used as an outdoor restaurant. The ground floor of the building includes common areas such as the restaurant and fitness center, whereas the other floors feature a range of concept rooms that cater to different areas of use.
