With its rapidly developing economy, the Azerbaijani capital of Baku has begun to welcome international organizations and continues to increase its tourist investments. This project came to life following the demolishing of an old restaurant building located on the L-shaped property at the heart of the city in the green city park along the Absheron Bay.
In line with the developer’s desire to gather three different restaurants under the same roof, we strived to design a project in which the three establishments could work together yet independently, and remain distinct both in the commercial and spatial sense.
Blending into the street, TOSCA is an Italian restaurant, whereas SAHİL on the first floor offers stylish Azerbaijani cuisine and seafood. Located on the top floor with its vast terrace, PASIFICO functions as a bar and nightclub serving Brazilian cocktails late into the night. The “back of the house” (BOH) of each establishment is connected, though a different chef runs each restaurant.
The goal of the project was to define the three establishments with three separate entrances while reflecting this distinction harmoniously on the façade. As a trattoria, TOSCA is distinguished with stones, the seafood-oriented SAHİL, which translates as seashore, by light blue glass reflecting the Caspian Sea, and the Brazilian PASIFICO with wood alluding to the Amazon.
Facing the busiest boulevard of the city and equipped with the BOHs, the blind façade of the building is covered with folded reflective-glass panels to optically increase the effect of the trees lining the street.
