The kindergarten, which is designed in Baku, Azerbaijan, is planned to have a capacity of 120 students in the renewed school campus of the educational institution named “MTK International School in the name of Heydar Aliyev” with a history of 28 years.
Located in the north of the education campus, the kindergarten is designed to be separated from the rest of the campus as space requirement, form and material and is designed to communicate more easily with its users.
The structure, which is shaped not to touch the old trees in the existing land and which has an atypical, broken geometry due to this shaping, is entered from the center from the recreation area which is considered as a common area. This place can be used for shows, meetings, etc. as well as with a fun stair which provides a second floor connection. This space, which reminds the carnal plan and presents the street-garden relationship without optic disruption thanks to its transparency, constructs the circulation between the floors and the two wings of the structure with a sofa logic. Areas underneath the ramp stairs have also been transformed into fun corners where children can describe themselves as places.
In addition to eight classrooms and a sleeping room, the kindergarten also includes educational units such as computers, art and music, and support units, such as teachers’ rooms and nurses’ rooms. All of the classrooms are located on the south facade, while the sleeping rooms are located on the north facade. On the facade of the class, the colorful jamb windows which are placed at different heights according to the height of the children and adults and the natural looking flooring material create the child-scale, light classes as well as the identity of the exterior facade.
Transitions between corridors and classrooms are designed with glazed furniture units that will carry daylight into corridors instead of walls. This divider, which functions as a wall, can be stacked in the furniture grid, with toy drawers and seating units. When looking at the corridor, the needs such as shoes and hangers was placed on the opposite side of the same unit. These movements transform corridors into fun and functional gaming places.
